 I would like to talk about Annie Leibovitz in this research as her works are very inspiring. She is an American portrait photographer best known for her engaging portraits, particularly of celebrities. She is good at using feature subjects in setting and poses. She is worked for Rolling Stone magazine for 10 years. One of her well-known portraits is her Polaroid photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono for the magazine's cover, taken five hours before Lennon's murderer.She is also got an honour to take portrait of Queen Elizabeth. It would be mainly focused in this research. For the first take of the portrait, she prefer Queen Elizabeth to less dressy. She asked Queen to remove her tiara in order to make the image simpler. It is our first time using a medium format camera. It is called Holga 120N. 120 roll film would be used. As I knew that our next assignment is to make portraits, I decided to use this camera to make some portraits as a practice. This is the contact sheet that I made. I tried so many times to make it reach maximum black in printing process, but it is failed. I realized that it is under-exposed. I should have include more lighting in it. But still, I have tried interact with my model, and asked him to pose at different angle. I have learnt a lesson by making these photos This is the result .  

In this project, I would like to make a photomontage that is cinematic, using exaggeration. I am inspired by our studio's front door. When I am looking at it, I always feel like someone  is behinding the door and they are chatting. I have social anxiety when I feel like someone is coming and I am struggling whether should I join the chat or not. In regarding of this, I would like to put a large hand behind the door window which shows someone's hand when they are chatting. Firstly,  I made a contact sheet as usual. Then I started to print the door and the hand. Originally I planned to key another hand at the bottom and behind the door. Unfortunately, although I tried many times to key it naturally by using different methods, such as cutting its negatives and cutting making cover on it, I failed. In this assignment, I would like to make a photomontage that is surrealistic. After seeing examples of artist who have done photomontage, I am inspired by Hannah Maynard. She first stepped foot in Victoria in 1862.  When she was 28 years old, she started making  t hen-cutting edge art of photography  . Only a black box camera and dark room is all she needed. Some of her artwork is used of surrealism. For instance, In this image, she casts as the two tea drinkers. They are not twins but they are both casts by Maynard. They looks so natural in this image. Another her stuck on wall art and she is pouring tea towards a tea drinker. A triangular composition is used in this photo. The one who stuck on wall art is emphasised as she is centre of this image. Moreover, there is more light on the middle. It creates a mystery atmosphere. I am impressed by Maynard flawless printing techniques. They look so realistic in this image. Starting my final project, an idea of taking of people smoking popped out of my mind. I really want to create something moody, cinematic and cool. Thus, i have an idea of create a sequence of whole process of people smoking.  Apart from that, it is also really matter to me. After I came to Canada, I am staying apart from my friends. Sometimes I would memorise they were talking with me while they were smoking. At that moment, I feel like we become closer as they can talk something different when they are smoking. They talked more deeply , something that is really private. Meanwhile, I have found that they became more attractive to me . They become stunning as I found that I am trustworthy to them. part 1 of this assignment is to try different stops of exposure in order to familiar with how dark or how bright a photo presents of each stops of exposure.   With a lower stop of exposure, a brighter a photo is. With a higher stop of exposure, a darker a photo is. This the result of a "0" exposure! which is the proper exposure. Part 2 is to learn two different types of depth-of-view. One is deep depth-of-view, one is shallow depth-of-view. This is a photo shows a shallow depth-of-view, which is only a part of the frame is in focus, while the rest is rendered blurry. This is a photo shows a deep depth-of-view, which is a larger area in focus, both fore and back area can be focused. After finished this assignment, I can understand how a proper exposure is created. Also, I can take a picture of objects that I want to focus on by adjusting aperture to create shallow-depth-of-view. It is so much fun to do an assignment that is experimental.
